HKUST(GZ) Hosts Roundtable on International Development and Sustainability

On December 16th, HKUST (GZ) hosted the High-Level Roundtable on Emerging Trends in International Development in a Complex Era, bringing together over 20 education experts and industry leaders from countries such as China, Belgium, Sweden, and South Korea.

The discussions centered on topics like the UN Sustainable Development Goals, South-South cooperation, global talent cultivation, and the pivotal role of research universities in shaping a sustainable future.

Professor Lionel Ni, President of HKUST (GZ), highlighted the urgency of these conversations in his opening remarks, syaing “we stand at a pivotal moment. It is essential that we engage in meaningful discussions about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and related issues. These goals are not just a framework; they represent a responsibility we must embrace as educators and researchers.”
HKUST(GZ) is committed to creating equal opportunities in technological progress, said Professor Ni. “We share the mission to foster sustainable development and contribute to a more equitable world,” he added.

The roundtable served as a valuable platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue. Notable speakers including Prof. Siddharth K. JABADE from Asian Institute of Technology, Prof. Steffi WEIL from Antwerp Management School, Mr. Bernardo Mendia from Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Mr. Dennis Pamlin from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, alongside contributions from our colleagues such as Professors Dirk Kutscher, Anca HORVATH, Seona Park, Oncay YASA and Mr. Jing FU.
